Ales' Mara ( Alyaksey Marachkin) is a freelance artist. He was born on March 30,1940 in Papowshchyna village (now Novaya Slabada),Mahilyow district. Some sources give the wrong date of birth --- March 10.
A.Marachkin finished school in Yazyorsk (1958), he graduated from The Vitsyebsk Pedagogical Institute (now The Vitsyebsk State University) --- the faculty of graphic art (1962), from The Belarusian State Institute of Theatre and Arts (now The Belarusian Academy of Arts) ---the faculty of painting (1972).
He worked as a school teacher of graphic drawing and technical drawing in Rubel' village, Stolin Region, in Zhodzina, in Minsk. He taught in the Belarusian State Institute of Theatre and Arts, was the head of the department of painting The Belarusian Acadamy of Arts. He is an assosiate professor.
He is a member of The Belarusian Union of Artists (The BSH) since 1977. He has been participating in exhibitions since 1966. His works has been presented in Belarus, Poland, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Finland, Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy, Russia.
He experiments with different genres in painting and graphic drawing. His art is characterized by associative allegoric vision and understanding of Belarusan history and traditions. He has made a string of vivid portraits of prominent figures of Belarusan history and culture, "Painted Rugs", series "Stories and Legends of Belarus", paintings with social and political connotation, still lifes, landscapes.
His works are presented in The National Art Museum, in The Department of Arts The Ministry of Culture of RB, in museums in Vitsyebsk, Mahilyow, Hrodna, Cherykaw, in private collections in Belarus and abroad. He is a founder member and the first chief of the art society "Pahonia" (Chaser), created within The Belarusian Union of Artists (The BSH), which has awarded him the silver medal of Revival of Belarus. For his remarkable achievements in national renaissance and advocacy of cultural heritage of Belarusan people, he has been awarded the state Medal of Francisk Skaryna.
